I've been driving in overdrive since i bought my car, is that okay?

i bought a 94 camry and i noticed today, that i've been driving with it in overdrive for over a month now.is this safe on the engine? and also, when i take it off of overdrive, and i accelerate, the engine revs up. please help.......
